Quarto and its creator are to Gigamic what a first crush is to all of us: a spark, an emotion of a somewhat different nature, a “je ne sais quoi”. It’s true to say that Blaise Muller remains for all those who know him, a “character”: Know-how, manner professionalism and gentleness, discretion and generosity, reflect the self-made nature of this pragmatic humanist.
Tribulations in his youth and scores of odd jobs in the “para-artistic” followed higher science studies during which his lust for freedom failed to find any gratification. But, he has remained true to the pleasure of his salad days, namely electronics, computer science, mathematics and… science-fiction…
Quarto ( created in 1991 ) is undoubtedly one of the best strategy games of the decade. Its creation followed research relating to magic squares. The creator has achieved a tour de force by combining a brain-bashing theoretical concept with a revolutionary rule: to give the piece over to one’s opponent! This capacity to move from a mathematical theory to such a playful application is evidence of an independent and open mind. Blaise Muller describes himself as “less than assured”, but he is known to be an anticonformist who provides objective and logical answers to the most complex questions. This amazing aptitude together with his marvellous simplicity makes him today, in spite of his success in the world of games, a renowned leader who first and foremost loves his family and his job as well as a pleasant and stimulating interlocutor.
